Biala Wind Farm

Planning & Approval
Process

The Project is categorised as State Significant Development (SSD) under the NSW Planning System and will require the preparation of a detailed Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for consideration by the Department of Planning and Environment (DP&E).

Environmental Assessment Requirements

Director General Requirements (DGRs) were initially issued in August 2013 for the Project by DP&E. The DGRs required assessment of both the wind farm site and the transmission line. Newtricity forwarded a request to DP&E in December 2014 seeking to withdraw the transmission line from the SSD Project Area. A copy of this correspondence is provided here.

DP&E has considered Newtricity’s request to withdraw the transmission line from the SSD Project Area and revised Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs previously known as DGRs) were issued on 19 May 2015. A copy of the revised SEARs are provided here.

The SSD application for the Project and supporting Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) were lodged with DP&E in July 2015. Planning approval was granted for the Biala Windfarm on 12 April 2017 by the Planning Assessment Commission. Copies of the Approval documents, the EIS and supporting documents can be accessed via the DP&E website here.

Transmission Line Update

Newtricity Developments Biala Pty Ltd has prepared a development application for the proposed transmission line for the Biala Windfarm.  This was lodged with upper Lachlan shire council on 22nd August 2017. A copy of the application can be found here. We will provide further updates as they come to hand.
